A core build-up procedure is then completed and followed by a crown procedure. Alternatively a clinical crown can be built up with composite by utilizing various different construction methods.

FAQs
1. What will these procedures cost?
Fibre reinforced composite restorations are very cost effective. For example: a huge reinforced composite restoration will cost about R600.00, and a crown will cost about R1 800.00. Another example: a traditional bridge cost about R3 800.00 and a fibre reinforced direct or semi direct bridge will cost about R1 900.00.

2. Will my medical aid pay?
The amount that the medical aid (insurance) will pay differs between the options chosen by you. In some instances it will cover the total amount, but in some cases you will have to pay the excess, again, depending on your specific option. We strongly advise that you get a written treatment plan and a cost estimate from your dentist before treatment commence. Submit this costing to your medical aid and find out if there will be any access payment to be made by you.

3. Will it be painful?
In most cases (99%) you will feel only slight discomfort or you will feel nothing at all. Most of the treatment can be carried out without an injection and in one sitting.

4. Will my restoration last?
International clinical studies have shown that these fibre reinforced restorations have an intra-oral survival rate of 93% over a 5-year period, making it one of the best restorations you can get.

5. Is it safe / will it damage my health?
There is a worldwide trend to move away from mercury containing dental fillings and the recommended replacement restorative material is composite. In fact, composites are the closest substance to natural human tooth substance you can get.

6. If my dentist does not do these types of fillings, where can I get one that does?
